Gaming News - December 2006
Washington, DC (December 21, 2006) - The U.S. Army today
announced that America's Army: Special Forces (Coalition) is available for
download at www.americasarmy.com.
From The US Army:
America's Army: Special Forces (Coalition) marks the debut of the America’s
Army Mission Editor. The Mission Editor enables America's Army players to modify
existing levels and/or create new levels using any of the existing art, sound,
particle effects and gameplay assets created by the development team. With this
release, players are able to create missions to give back to the community they
love, take their favorite map and enhanced it to match the way they’ve always
wanted to play it, and highlight their map building expertise and leadership in
the America’s Army community to a global audience.
In conjunction with the America's Army: Special Forces (Coalition) release, is
the launch of Mission Depot (www.aamissiondepot.com), the official map
submission site and repository for the America’s Army game. To facilitate the
map approval process, all player-created levels and missions contain a unique
signature in the map file for identification purposes. Maps uploaded to Mission
Depot will be reviewed by the America’s Army team to ensure the missions are
appropriate, function properly, and have all of the elements required for online
multiplayer action. The Mission Depot site contains a wealth of information on
what it takes to create an official mission of America’s Army.
The most creative and well-constructed maps and those that best fit within the
America’s Army game may be chosen to become Official America’s Army maps. Anyone
can create missions to play, but only maps approved and hosted on the Mission
Depot will be designated as Official Maps for deployment on Honor bearing
servers. Once the approved mission is hosted on Official America's Army servers
for everyone to enjoy, screenshots of the map will be displayed to give players
a map preview. Mission Depot will allow the America’s Army community to vote for
their favorite maps.
The America’s Army team is providing an online manual (http://manual.americasarmy.com)
as well as tutorials based on two existing America’s Army maps (Border and Dusk)
in order to help players understand the techniques and basic tools involved in
creating new missions. These tutorials take players through the steps required
to construct buildings and staircases, lay terrain, and insert obstacles and
vehicles. The tutorial also instructs players how to add special lighting for
dramatic effect, trigger sounds to play at key moments, create doors that open
and close, breakable glass, and just about anything else found inside America’s
Army.
To support the launch of America's Army: Special Forces (Coalition), the
America’s Army team is releasing a new section dedicated to mapping on the
Official Forum. Players will be able to discuss the art of map building with
others in the community, learn mapping tips and tricks, ask questions and more.
More information about changes and updates in America’s Army: Special Forces
(Coalition) are available in the Read Me that accompanies the download.
