Gaming News - December 2003
Diamond Bar, CA (December 17, 2003) - Netamin today announced that it
has rolled out the Ultimate Baseball Online (UBO) Beta Player Program. As part
of the program, Netamin and GameSpy's FilePlanet.com will conduct large-scale
trials of the beta version of UBO. GameSpy will offer the beta program to more
than 5,000 of its members through its FilePlanet download site. The Beta Player
Program is expected to run for two weeks with the full version of UBO launching
to the general public in January.
“With its large and loyal readership, GameSpy is an ideal partner for
Ultimate Baseball Online," said Andy Wang, president of Netamin Corporation.
"Online gamers pride themselves on being ahead of the mainstream technology
curve and with UBO, gamers will once again play a pivotal roll in the shaping of
technology - this time with the world's first virtual baseball event."
"It's great to see games like UBO that break the mold of fantasy-based
Massive Multi-player Games and can potentially reach out to a whole new audience
of gamers," said Jamie Berger, vice president of consumer products for GameSpy.
"Now you don't have to slay dragons or live in space - you can jump online and
have a pick-up baseball game with a bunch of buddies or with perfect strangers
from around the world."
From Netamin:
This revolution in gaming technology allows baseball enthusiasts and gamers
to actually compete in real-time in a 3D virtual stadium. With stunning,
lifelike graphics and amazing audio reactions from the crowd, participants
control a player for a specific field position in a team; gamers build their
skill level through making plays on field against other real human players. The
UBO universe includes league play, pick-up games and practice mode. Winning
teams will receive championship rings and recognition among fellow gamers. In
order to ensure the utmost in accuracy, Darrell Evans, a two time Major League
All-Star ('73 & '74) and World Series winner (1985), is serving as UBO's
principle baseball consultant. Players interested in participating in the beta
program can log in to
