Gaming News - December 2002
Redmond, WA (December 6, 2002) - Microsoft Game Studios today
announced the newly launched official Freelancer site, located at
www.microsoft.com/games/freelancer.
From Microsoft:
Visitors to the site will be able to immerse themselves in the Freelancer
universe by learning about the game's features, checking out all the latest news
and downloading the Freelancer Fan Site Kit, which is jam-packed with
screenshots, movies, original art and much more.
The official site also features the game's compelling storyline, giving players
a unique glimpse into the 800-year history of the Freelancer timeline. Players
should check back often, as various galactic systems will be added to the Neural
Net section of the site, with the Liberty Space sector already documented and
online. The external section links gamers to the online fan community, allowing
them to get in-the-know about all the latest Freelancer discussion topics.
Set in the outer reaches of the planetary system, Freelancer combines the action
of 3-D space combat, the exploration of a dynamic, living universe and trading
in a rich galactic economy, where players' decisions drive the adventure. Slated
for U.S. release in spring 2003 and developed by Digital Anvil, the epic
adventure allows players to choose the life of a bounty hunter, trader, pirate
or explorer, earning the spoils and enemies that come with each experience. The
open-ended style of gameplay gives gamers a choice between following a linear
storyline or determining how the story will unfold. The multiplayer component
enables players around the globe with their own servers to fly missions or
explore space together. An enhanced mouse and keyboard interface simulates the
realistic feel of flying a spaceship while making the game accessible to a wide
range of gamers. For more information about Freelancer, and to download the
Freelancer Fan Site Kit, visit the official site at
