Gaming News - November 2006

New York, NY (November 14, 2006) - The World Cyber Games today released details on their World Cyber Games 2006 Holiday Clash tournament.

From WCG:

Still need holiday gifts? Then get your fingers ready for the World Cyber Games 2006 Holiday Clash online tournament, presented by Intel. Gamers at all levels will face-off for the chance to prove their gaming dominance and to win a blazingly fast Intelâ Coreä2 Extreme quad core processor based PC that’s a leap ahead in gaming-optimized processing power. The competition pits gamers’ skill in two of today’s hottest PC titles -- Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs and QUAKE 4. The online tournament will be held December 11 - 17, 2006. Registration is free at www.intel.com/personal/gaming/clash/index.htm?cid=cim:wcgFA51.

For the thousands of US competitors who participated in the World Cyber Games (“WCG”) this year, the WCG Holiday Clash is another chance to build competition experience during the off-season as well as to compete playing a different game. “I’m really excited to see the WCG branching out and offering more tournaments,” said three-time WCG gold medalist Dave “Moto” Geffon, who along with Team 3D, competed in Counter-Strike at the 2006 WCG Grand Final in Italy. ”I really enjoy QUAKE 4, so it will be fun to try my hand at another event.”

“The World Cyber Games is committed to expanding e-Sports within the core and casual gaming community beyond our traditional global tournament tract,” said Michael Arzt, general manager and senior vice president for International Cyber Marketing USA, organizers of the World Cyber Games. “We want to give more players more access to our global brand of “cyber” gaming, by connecting online, playing in more WCG-branded tournaments and winning some truly awesome prizes.”

“Intel is teaming with the World Cyber Games because they are a real pioneer and leader in growing the popularity of e-Sports,” said Josh Shapiro, director internet marketing for Intel.com. “Intel is truly committed to gamers and e-Sports and the new generation of Intel processors make the experience faster, more immersive and realistic than ever before, and there’s no better way to demonstrate Intel’s gaming commitment than the inaugural “WCG Holiday Clash” presented by the Intel Core2 Extreme.”

In addition to a $1,000 cash prize, first place winners in each game will receive an Intel Core 2 Extreme quad core processor powered Gateway PC (a $5,000 value), and a Microsoft PC Game Pack, which includes: Lego, Star Wars II, Flight Sim X, Company of Heroes and Zoo Tycoon 2: Zoo Keepers Collection, among others. Second place winners will receive an Intel Core 2 Extreme dual core processor, a Samsung 931C gaming monitor and the Microsoft PC Game Pack. The third place finishers will get an Intel Core 2 Extreme dual core processor as well as the Microsoft PC Game Pack. The approximate total value of the cash and prizes is over $16,000.
