Gaming News - October 2003

Santa Monica, CA (October 13, 2003) - Activision today announced the details of their Call of Duty Answer The Call - Online Sweepstakes.

From Activision:

Going beyond the Call of Duty - the new intense, cinematic WWII first-person action game for the PC, Activision, Inc. is offering gamers the chance to win a grand prize that arms one lucky winner with state-of-the-art firepower, via the Call of Duty Answer The Call - Online Sweepstakes. Beginning October 13, 2003 through January 9, 2004, fans can enter to win an Alienware® Area-51(tm) PC, loaded for gaming with an NVIDIA® GeForce(tm) FX 5900 Ultra-based graphics card, a Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy® 2 ZS sound card, a Creative Inspire(tm) T7700 (7.1 speaker system) and a copy of Call of Duty for the PC.

Additionally, two first-prize winners will each receive an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 Ultra-based graphics card, a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card, a Creative Inspire T7700 (7.1 speaker system) and a copy of Call of Duty. Ten second-prize winners will each receive one copy of the game. Consumers can enter the sweepstakes via the official Call of Duty website at www.callofduty.com. All winners will be selected by random drawing and will be announced through the website on or about January 12, 2004.

"We are very excited to be partnering with Alienware, Nvidia and Creative Labs on this unique sweepstakes promotion," states Dusty Welch, vice president, global brand management at Activision, Inc. "Call of Duty is an exciting game that thrusts players into the intensity and chaos of war like never before, making this title one of the most anticipated games of the year."

As well as allowing gamers to enter the sweepstakes, the website also gives fans an overview of Call of Duty's Hollywood-style production. Players can learn details about the variety of missions, vehicles and weapons in the game's U.S., British and Russian campaigns, and should be sure to check out the four "Living Screenshots" - gameplay clips each between 15-20 seconds highlighting the intensity and emotion of gameplay. The site even contains "Battle Tactics," so gamers can get a head-start as they prepare to join their squad and engage enemy forces. Additionally, fans can download the demo, access the brand new full-length Call of Duty trailer, check out updated screenshots, and view "Brothers-In-Arms" - a collage of footage showcasing the Call of Duty's squad-based gameplay; the first of three new cinematic vignettes each demonstrating a different component of the game.

Call of Duty ships to retail stores nationwide on October 29th, 2003. The game is being developed by Infinity Ward for the PC, and has been rated "T" (Teen - Blood, Violence - content suitable for persons ages 13 and older) by the ESRB.
