Gaming News - September 2002
New York, NY (September 10, 2002) - UK based game publisher,
Codemasters announced that SAS hero Chris Ryan has been secured as the military
consultant for the forthcoming stealth-based, first-person shooter IGI 2: Covert
Strike. This title is due to ship for the PC this November.
Chris Ryan, a member of the SAS eight-man team chosen for the “Bravo Two
Zero” mission, was dropped behind Iraqi enemy lines during The Gulf War. In the
midst of the military action, three of the team members were killed and four
were captured; only Ryan escaped. Ryan’s remarkable getaway involved an
eight-day trek across the desert, often in full view of enemy patrols.
Originating from such a traumatic experience, Ryan wrote the novel “The One That
Got Away” in 1995, which became an immediate best seller.
Ryan, now the author of nine novels, will work with Codemasters’ game
designers to advise on the accuracy of the game’s arsenal of weaponry and how
covert tactics can be applied to the gameplay in IGI 2: Covert Strike. Ryan will
also front a series of videos providing players with tactical advice for the
game.
“It’s exciting to have Mr. Ryan contribute his advice into the creation of
the game,” said Richard Blenkinsop, Codemasters’ producer of IGI 2: Covert
Strike. “With vast knowledge and experience of real SAS combat, his involvement
will no doubt make the title a huge success!”
"IGI 2: Covert Strike’s open approach for the player to tackle situations by
stealth or firepower makes for excellent tactical gameplay,” said Chris Ryan. “A
main part of my involvement is concentrating on the authenticity of the 30-plus
real world firearms featured in the game to ensure they operate as they really
should.”
IGI 2: Covert Strike is being developed at Innerloop Studios AS, the
Oslo-based team that created the original. For more information on the game,
