Gaming News - July 2002
Redmond, WA (July 2, 2002) - Microsoft Game Studios and Digital Anvil
today announced that "Freelancer" fans will have an opportunity to leave their
mark on the game in the "Freelancer" "Name the Planet" contest. Gamers can visit
either of "Freelancer's" most loyal fan sites, Lancer News
www.lancernews.com or Lancers Reactor
www.lancersreactor.com, to submit
their suggestion for naming a new planet to be included in Microsoft's highly
anticipated epic space-adventure game.
Ten finalists will be chosen by each fan site and submitted to Microsoft and
Digital Anvil for judging. From those 20 finalists, ten planet names will be
considered for inclusion in "Freelancer." As an added bonus, the ten winners
will also receive a sneak-preview copy of "Freelancer." For those gamers who
have always wanted to make a name for themselves in a computer game, each of the
20 finalists will also be invited to have their very own names listed as
non-player characters within the "Freelancer" universe. For more information
about the "Name the Planet" contest and for official rules, please visit Lancer

From Microsoft:
Set in the outer reaches of the planetary system, "Freelancer" plunges
players into a vibrant 3-D universe filled with political intrigue, space combat
and an unknown alien menace. Slated for U.S. release in spring 2003 and
developed by Digital Anvil, the epic adventure allows players to choose the life
of a bounty hunter, trader, pirate or explorer, earning the spoils and enemies
that come with each experience. The open-ended style of gameplay gives gamers a
choice between following a linear storyline or determining how the story will
unfold. The multiplayer component enables players around the globe with their
own servers to fly missions or explore space together. An enhanced mouse and
keyboard interface simulates the realistic feel of flying a spaceship while
making the game accessible to a wide range of gamers. For more information about
"Freelancer," please visit the official site at:
