Gaming News - March 2007
New York, NY (March 21, 2007) - 2K Sports today announced the results
of their simulation of this week's NCAA Tournament games using their game
College Hoops 2K7.
From 2K Sports:
As March Madness approaches its climatic final showdown, the 2nd Annual
Pontiac Virtual NCAA Final 4 Tournament has completed its latest round of
competition with victories for UNLV, Pittsburgh, and Vanderbilt! By playing
through the thrilling match-ups with College Hoops 2K7, the #1 rated college
basketball simulation series, before the actual games take place, the 2nd Annual
Pontiac Virtual NCAA Final 4 Tournament has generated a set of exciting
predictions for this weekend’s match-ups! This round’s results shaped up as
follows:
UNLV Upsets Higher Seeded Oregon
The 7th seeded UNLV Running Rebels were the lowest seeded team to make the round
of 16, but they were not intimidated by the higher seeded Oregon Ducks, as they
pulled off the upset, 70-59. Leading a closely contested game by just 3 at the
half, UNLV took control after the break, out rebounding the Ducks by 10 and
connecting on 55% of their field goals. With the momentum gone, Oregon couldn’t
maintain the pace, hitting just 40% of their shots from the field and shooting a
miserable 41% from the line.
Pittsburgh Beats UCLA
Last year’s virtual tournament winner, UCLA, saw their dreams of a second
consecutive Final 4 dashed today, as they fell to the Pittsburgh Panthers,
72-68. Pittsburgh couldn’t do anything wrong, hitting 67% of their field goals
and shooting better than 88% from the free throw line. UCLA’s defense played
well, forcing 12 Pittsburgh turnovers and grabbing 10 steals. However, their
defensive effort wasn’t enough to stop the hot-handed Panthers, as they move on
to the west bracket final.
Georgetown Falls To Vanderbilt
The third round of the virtual tournament has seen multiple upsets, none bigger
than the Vanderbilt Commodores defeating Georgetown, 63-55. The Hoya’s came into
the tournament as the nation’s hottest team; however they never seemed to get on
track against the streaking Commodores. Vandy used a hot hand from beyond the
arc to doom the Hoyas, connecting on 43% of their 3-point opportunities and
securing their spot in the elite 8.
