Gaming News - February 2007
Bellevue, WA (February 14, 2007) - ArenaNet today announced the Guild
Wars in-game celebration of Canthan New Year.
From ArenaNet:
Residents of the Guild Wars universe will be observing a new holiday this
weekend – a festival celebrating the Canthan New Year is coming to Shing Jea
Monastery (Guild Wars Factions) February 16 – 19.
Each year, Canthans flock to Shing Jea Monastery to prepare and partake in a
great feast to honor the particular celestial animal who will watch over them
during the coming year. This year’s animal, the Celestial Pig, will descend from
the heavens to enjoy Cantha’s culinary delights. If satisfied with the meal, the
Celestial Pig will bestow good luck upon the populace for the coming year.
Throughout the event, players will enjoy festival-themed quests, a great feast,
traditional decorations, fortune tellers, and the inaugural running of the
rollerbeetle races! There will also be smaller celebrations in Kamadan (Guild
Wars Nightfall) and Lion’s Arch (Guild Wars Prophecies), but you’ll want to
attend the grand finale in Shing Jea Monastery for special prizes!
The Canthan New Year's Festival event begins at Noon PST (20:00 GMT) on Friday,
February 16, 2007 and will run all weekend, ending at Noon PST (20:00 GMT) on
Monday, February 19, 2007. On Sunday, February 18, the Celestial Pig will drop
from the sky into Shing Jea Monastery every three hours to sample Canthan
delicacies. The feast culminates in dancing, fireworks, and the showering of the
populace with gifts...but only if the celestial enjoys its meal.
