Gaming News - February 2003

(February 3, 2003) - Subsim Review today announced that they have provided an update for Destroyer Command and Silent Hunter II that increases those games' playability online.  Details can be found at www.subsim.com.

From SubSim Review:

Subsim Review, Doutel Software Services, LLC, and the Wolfpack League have succeeded in converting the Silent Hunter II/ Destroyer Command multiplayer engine from rTime to Microsoft DirectPlay. As you may have experienced, the original rTime engine was notoriously unstable and players were treated to constant drops and errors. We were given permission by Ubi-soft and Ultimation to take the source code and replace rTime with DirectPlay.

Now Silent Hunter II players can look forward to these new features!

* Maximum number of players increased from 4 to 10
* Silent running working
* Resupply feature working (with supported scenarios)
* Manual dive plane usage
* Larger AI convoys, up to 30 ships
* Better Multiplayer performance--very few drops!
* Enhanced time compression--now up to 128x allowed.
* Peer-to-peer system, meaning if host disconnects, game continues with another player automatically enabled as the new host

Best of all it is waiting for you at Subsim.com FREE!! Yes, you bought the game and now you can enjoy its potential. The Silent Hunter II/Destroyer Command DirectPlay Conversion and Multiplayer Upgrade (Projekt Messerwetzer) is funded entirely by voluntary contributions.
