Speaking of your enemies, their AI is generally above average if not a little too aggressive at times. Enemies seek cover and are then smart enough to fire from different positions so you can't just pick them off by timing their jack-in-a-box pop-ups. If their position is about to be overwhelmed, you'll even see them pick up their guns and run off to seek a safer spot. You'll occasionally see boneheaded moves such as an insistence to man a machine gun even after you've systematically picked-off the last three soldiers who tried it. Enemies are also a little too willing to charge you and engage in hand to hand - which is problematic if they catch you during a reload but in most cases makes it easy for you to drop them with a single shot to the head.

The game includes six levels, but don't be misled by the low number. It can take a bit of time before you finally make it to the end of a level and overall you'll get about six hours or so out of the single player campaign. The game also supports multiplayer games of up to 12 players. The game types include the standard deathmatch and control type variants and the maps each feature a nice mix of interior and exterior areas. The thing that really sets the multiplayer game apart is the game variants that have the allies spawn from a C-47 and parachute down to the map. This leads to a lot of dynamic and wide-open gameplay, not to mention a lot of fighting from rooftops. Serious online gamers may be disappointed by the lack of extra features in the multiplayer game, but it's fun for those who just want to spend a little time playing against other gamers.
Usually I don't go into a game's graphics in a review unless they are really good or really bad. In Airborne the graphics are above average, but that's not why I bring them up. The issue is that the game's a system hog even though there's not much of a payoff for the increased system load. There's no reason why a machine that can run most shooters with just about all of the graphical bells and whistles enabled should struggle to keep the frame rate up on anything higher than the base 1024 resolution setting. Keep this in mind if you're considering this game and your rig is a few years old.
Medal of Honor Airborne is an enjoyable game, due in large to the development team's efforts to make a game that isn't just another World War II shooter clone. It won't take the shooter world by storm, but it is certainly fun to play. And in the end isn't that what really matters?
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
84%. Jump into some enjoyable World War II action.
