You cannot get into the world at this point, so spend any experience you like 
and do as the guildmaster says and head through the gate. There's a lot of 
fighting coming up, but try not to get too caught up in the fighting, the 
important thing is to get to Jack. Besides, you don't want to use up your 
health potions at this point. Keep following Jack through the various portals.

Briar Rose will be with you in the first section, but she stays behind to fight 
the creatures after the first portal is open. In the Hobbe caves, you'll meet 
up with Thunder, but he will wimp out after the portal is opened there.

After the fourth portal is open, you'll end up back at the guild, where you 
will once again automatically pick up a gold quest card.
