6GUN - An Inside Look
System: PC

Index · Previews

We recently spoke with Eric DeMilt, designer/producer of 6GUN to get an inside look at the upcoming game.  Here is what he had to say...

GT: What types of missions will players experience in the game? Will the missions be tied together by a storyline?

Eric: Individual missions will vary greatly in the types of tactical problems presented to the player as well as the player’s overall mission objectives. Objectives will range from tactical equipment and personnel recovery, assassination, recon, hostage rescue, demolitions, and direct assault. In addition to his own game actions the player will often lead an assault team through the mission.

All the game's missions will be tied together by a central story line. Missions and characters will flow together in a logical fashion rather than being a disjointed series of tactical problems. Without giving away too much here is an overview of the story. The story line follows the player from his initial mission as the the leader of an assault team in the highly classified GUNSLINGER program. The GUNSLINGER program is operated by the Special Operations Command (SOCOM). When diplomacy fails, and the US government needs a "deniable" military solution to its problems abroad, they call the on the GUNSLINGERS.

Dropping in.

The GUNSLINGER record of successful missions was recently shattered with a failed operation, and political pressures have relegated them to the second string of Special Operations while better known groups are assigned the best missions. GUNSLINGER Assault Team 2 is assigned a new leader (the player) and given equipment and personnel recovery missions in South America. In the course of the mission in the jungles of South America the GUNSLINGERS discover surprisingly detailed information about Typhoon Class Ballistic Missile Submarines and the Soviet Northern Fleet in the possession of an international arms trafficker. Soon after, a Typhoon in the port of Primorsk for disarmament is attacked and boarded. A SOCOM operation to retake the sub ends in the detonation of a nuclear device and loss of an entire SEAL team, leaving the world in shock, and SOCOM in chaos.

As a result, the GUNSLINGERS are thrust back onto the center stage in the world of clandestine operations and begin to hunt those responsible for the attack in Primorsk.

GT: What are some of the locations players can expect to go to perform their missions? Will these locations be real-world or fictional?

Eric: The locations in the game will be based on real world locals but will be adapted as needed for the game story and gameplay. The game will take the player to South America, Western Europe, war torn cities in Eastern Europe and to a Soviet-era arctic weather station.

The locations we will be using will also be areas players are familiar with but are not normally permitted to freely run around and interact with. For example mission locations will include; the interior of a jumbo jet, subway platforms and trains, rail yards, and a ship at sea.
