Irth Online is an upcoming MMORPG that features plaver vs. player (PvP)
battles which take place in a massive, unique world. We were able to ask
a few questions of Alan Chipura, the game's lead designer, and find out a
little bit more about this interesting new game...
GT: What is “Irth”? Is it a planet, a land, a place, a time…?
AC: Irth is a planet. It is an entirely different planet in an entirely
different solar system and may or not be in a different time. I guess we
haven’t figured that out yet. Life on Irth is similar in some ways to cultures
that existed on Earth thousands of years ago.

However, there are natural and spiritual energies on Irth that can be utilized
by characters to enhance attributes creating awesome fantasy scenarios. Life on
Irth is tempestuous with rising conflicts between civilizations and struggles
to achieve world dominance.
GT: How large is the game world? What types of environments does it have?
AC: The world is enormous. At launch we will start with one continent which
measures 198 km x 198 km. This is only a fraction of the actual size of the
world. As the initial continent becomes populated with players, additional
lands will be available for players to discover. Who knows what they might find
there in these new lands -- adventures, treasures, new monsters, new
civilizations, new enemies, new friends? We have prepared a game world that is
ready and able to expand when the time is appropriate.
GT: Please tell us
a bit about the three civilizations in the game? How will they interact?
AC:We have three PvP civilizations named Arcadia, Mezzo and Morbia, and one
non-PvP civilization named Avaria. The three PvP civilizations have deep rooted
ideological differences that cannot be resolved diplomatically, and are
therefore at war. Avaria comprises immigrants from the PvP civilizations who
could no longer tolerate the constant state of war. So, they started a new
society where they are always at peace and focus their efforts on capitalistic
endeavors.
Some examples of how the PvP civilizations will interact are as follows. They
have intent to advance their societies and extinguish their enemies. They all
attempt to invade foreign territories and conquer land for their civilization.
They are inspired to attack foreign civilizations’ Empowering Source of
Wonders, where each distinct civilization draws spiritual strength. If the
Wonders can be occupied by foreign invasion, the deity at the Wonder rewards
the victors with a civilization attribute boost as well as pleasant weather
conditions, while the civilization that lost its Wonder receives a civilization
attribute hit and inclement weather condition. This situation persists until
the defeated civilization is able to successfully take back its lost Wonder.
The peaceful Avarians cannot be PvP’d but their good, pets, and guards can be.
Therefore, if an Avarian wants to risk gathering in dangerous areas, he or she
must be sure to evaluate the need to hire protection along the way.
