Once you slug your way through the brutal American missions, the British
missions will give you a decided change of pace. You’ll have the opportunity to
man the defensive guns on a B-17 during a raid in a pretty thrilling sequence.
When you get down to it the mission is essentially your basic arcade shooter,
but it’s so well done and generates so much excitement and tension that you’ll
be having too much fun to notice. The British campaign then takes you to Sicily
for some covert work taking out guns that are giving the Allies trouble as they
invade the island. If you pull the mission off, your reward is a high-speed PT
boat escape in which you serve as the gunner. While the British campaign does
not match the other two in terms of the size of the battles, it is probably the
most enjoyable of the three.

The Russian missions return you to the large-scale, difficult battles found
in the American campaign. Although the setting is now the battle of Kursk, once
again you’ll face waves of German attackers backed by plenty of armor and heavy
guns. The missions feature a lot of trench and building to building battles with
a healthy dose of very difficult stretched that will have you doing a lot of
reloading and working on your patience.
In addition to the 13 new missions, United Offensive adds some new
multiplayer game modes to Call of Duty. Capture the Flag, Domination, and Base
Assault modes add team-based excitement to the multiplayer game, with Domination
providing Battlefield 1942 style play in which teams vie for control of key
objectives on the map. In Base Assault players must destroy the opposing team’s
bunkers before the enemy can do the same. Also new to the multiplayer game are
vehicles that can be driven by players, even tanks. There is also a new ranking
system in the game that monitors how well you contribute to the team’s success.
With good contributions to success come good rewards in the form of additional
weapons and the ability to call in artillery strikes.
United Offensive maintains the high standards in graphics and sounds as the
original game. Explosion and fire effects are very well done, adding a stronger
feeling of drama to the game. The sound includes some of the best quality sound
effects to be found in a game. The roar and clank of an approaching tank can
actually make your hairs stand on end.
Overall, United Offensive is a good expansion game for Call of Duty. If
you’re a Call of Duty fan then you’ll find a lot to like about it. However, the
mission difficulty adds a level of frustration not found in the original game.
The result is a good game that just is not as great as a Call of Duty expansion
should be.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
87%. Call of Duty fans should sign up for another tour of duty.
