Taking a turn at the tailgunner position.

Call of Duty fans rejoice! You’re in for more great Call of Duty action with the game’s upcoming expansion pack, Call of Duty: United Offensive. The game will once again feature battles from the perspective of American, British, and Russian soldiers over 10 new missions. Missions from the British and Russian campaigns were being shown at E3 and it looks like the expansion will deliver the same great action as the original game.

The British missions include a stint aboard a British B-17 (the British had some of the Boeing bombers during the war) during a daylight bombing raid. The raid is under heavy enemy fire from both flak and ME-109s and your bomber is taking its share of damage, both to the fuselage and its crew. As the raid progresses, you’ll actually see the damage your plane is taking in the form of bullet holes, flameouts, and even missing pieces of the plane’s fuselage. You’ll also be able to move through the interior of the plane and see the crew struggling to fight off the fighters and keep the Flying Fortress flying. However, you’re not just a passenger on the plane in an interactive cinematic here – you’ll need to do your part to keep the bomber safe. This includes handling emergencies by completing tasks such as cutting off fuel to a flaming engine, as well as manning the various gun positions on the bomber. This is where the mission really shines as you’ll have an amazing view of a bombing raid in action while trying to knock German interceptors out of the sky. The graphics from the gun views are amazing - you’ll see huge sunlit cloudbanks, black puffs of flak, large bombers keeping a tight formation, and ME-109s darting back and forth. You won’t have time to enjoy the view though as you’ll need to keep those darting 109s from putting too many holes in your B-17. You’ll also need to keep a careful watch over where you’re shooting as you don’t want to hit your fellow bombers. Not surprisingly, downing one of your own will put a quick end to the mission.
