There may be enemies lurking behind any of those windows.

The second level included in the preview was a boss battle against a massive demon.  The battle takes place in an open area filled with the ruins of a great stone building that may have been the remains of the cathedral.  The boss has a habit of picking up whatever large boulder is convenient and throwing it at your hapless warrior.  He also carries a massive hammer that he pounds into the ground whenever he comes close to you.  Even if you dodge the hammer, its weight alone is enough to cause you to be launched into the air.  This is a pretty cool effect as you fly helplessly in an arc trying to get a few shots in before making a hard landing back on the ground.

The last level in the preview took place in a setting that resembled renaissance Venice.  You must make your way into and out of multistory buildings lining the edges of canals.  This setting provides a different experience than the cathedral level as a lot of the combat takes place at range.  Enemies are perched on rooftops or take shots at you from the many windows, balconies, and alcoves in the surrounding buildings.  Your movements are also constrained by the narrow walkways lining the canals and the small footbridges you must use to cross them.

This level gave us the chance to try out a new weapon, a gatling gun/rocket launcher combo.  This weapon is perfect for this level since it gives you the stopping power that you need in the tight quarters inside the buildings, while letting you take long range shots at demons in sniper positions on the buildings.  The rocket launcher gives the game another chance to show off its physics engine as enemies are blown off of rooftops or thrown back into rooms when they meet one of your rockets.

The demo really whet our appetites for the the final version of the game.  If the preview build is any indication, the final product will be an atmospheric game heavy on the action.  Think Serious Sam meets Quake and you've got a good idea of what to expect.  If that combination sounds as good to you as it does to us, you'll want to keep an eye on this game when it is released.
