"Your probably reading this review right now becasue your not sure if you
should buy Empires: Dawn of the modern world. Well you definatly should. Here
are the goods-and bads of the game.
As you probably already know the game starts in the medival age and ends in in
WW2. This is awesome becasue it gives you the experience of getting to build
foot-solders and archers then an hour later your pumping out tanks and bombers.
The games graphics are very good. A little bit like warcraft 3 graphics but
alittle less cartoony. The game is also very balanced in the way stainless steet
studios designed each race to have their own special units. In the box comes
with colored pictures and information about all the special units. For those of
you that get boared building various units and comanding them into battle then
you will be happy to know that the game includes variouse diffrent "powers" that
can be bought at the university. These powers include variouse things like call
down a meteror or build all units in que lines. This ads a great twist to the
game.
Another awesome thing about the game is the wonders you can build. As like age
of the empires you can build wonders to win the game but not like age of the
empires if you have that setting turned off then it will still benifit you to
build a wonder because each diffrent reace has a special that comes with the
wonder. For example if you build a wonder and are playing U.S then you can drop
30 or so troops anywhere on the map.
Another incrddible thing about this game is the fact that you can change the
poulation limit to the way you want it. Lowest is 250 and highest is 80,000 yes
80.000. There are more between these two numbers.
This game does have internet play . Oh yes i almost forgot the combat is
amazing. Unlike warcraft or age of the empires and all the other rts's empires
has sweet combat. Certain units will make your men fly in the air or fly back
5ft to there death. And when buildings get destroyed you can her glas braking
and crakling as they slowly fall down.
Though no game is perfect (except halo) there are a few faults. The first thing
you will notice is the game is not that smooth, like warcraft is a very smooth
game. The frame rates are a little slow as you scroll around the worlds.)by the
way the some maps have huge moutains that most units cant cross). After about 2
days of playing you wont even notice the bad frame rates. Another thing you will
notice is how it takes a very long tim e to get your economy going but you can
switch the setting to action mode which makes your citizens harvest fatsre and
move faster so you can get to fighting. The only catch is there less resources.
All and all this is a great game really worth buying. Its only$30.00 at bestbuy
to. I give it a 9 out of 10." - KillaGorilla
