| Just like Morrissey said, some cars are bigger than others. |
Graphically the game is very average. The desert and frozen wastelands
in which the levels are set all feature the same mesa and canyon terrain and
there is little in the way of structures or other features in the environments.
Sure the game takes place in an apocalyptic wasteland, but some detail would
have gone a long way towards sprucing up the game's bland environments. As
it stands, the game makes I-40 through the Mojave desert look like a scenic
wonderland.
The game's sound and music are a cut above the graphics and worth mentioning.
Your vehicle's weapons are manned by a wise-cracking and very opinionated
Scotsman who will provide you with plenty of entertainment during the missions.
The game also features an original music soundtrack that is heavy on techno and
metal tunes. It's not a soundtrack that you'll be dying to get on CD, but
it is a cut above the usual background music found in games.
Bandits also includes multiplayer game support, but it is limited to
deathmatch and team deathmatch modes. It can be fun for the novelty of
multiplayer combat, but there's not enough to it to hold your interest for long.
That's assuming that you can find a game, of course. Unless you have some
friends who want to play with you on a LAN it will take a bit of luck to find a
multiplayer game of Bandits. Multiplayer games are hosted on Gamespy, but
we were never able to find anyone else playing whenever we checked.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
70%. The game's arcade-like action can be fun at times, but its
difficulty level and lack of mid-mission saves will quickly make it too
frustrating for many players.
