If you loved Battlefield 1942, then you'll love the new maps. They're
all well-designed and provide an experience unique from the maps in the original
game. However, if you were not sold on the original, then the new maps
won't change your mind as you'll probably feel that they are more of the same.
While there are some new vehicles included on the maps, there are not a lot of
them and you'll still be driving and flying some familiar vehicles and planes.
The new vehicles include some interesting ones like the double-barreled M3 Grant
tank, the half-track with a gun M3 GMC, and the German tank-hunting
Sturmgeschutz. You'll also get two new twin-prop aircraft, the
Messerschmitt Bf110 and the De Havilland Mosquito. With the addition of
the Free French and Italians you get some infantry weapons, but for the most
part the new combatants make use of American and German equipment.
The Road to Rome takes a great game and makes it a bit better by adding a
greater variety of battlefields to the game. It would have been nice to
see some additional new features such as new game types. While it is
standard practice to include a new campaign with an expansion game, that is not
the case here, further cementing Battlefield 1942 as a multiplayer game first
and a single player game a distant second.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
88%. If you're a Battlefield 1942 fan, then you should just go out and
pick up this expansion.
