Just like in real life, your worries don’t stop at the end of the work day.
You have quite a bit to do in improving yourself as a person. Your first step is
improving your home and your set of skills. Improving your home is similar to
improving your place of work, except the goal is to gain social status. Your
fellow town inhabitants will no doubt put you on a pedestal if you have one of
the nicer houses in town, as this shows your superior skills in business. Inside
your home, you will have a chance to improve your skills too. You are allotted a
certain number of action points per year. Your allotment depends on your success
and the general welfare of the city in a given year. Provided you have enough,
you can use these action points to improve in areas such as negotiation or other
business traits.
As your business becomes more established, your home nicer, and your skills
improved, you begin to become more attractive to the ladies of the town. You
will need to begin a courtship to find a wife and eventually have children. The
courtship process can take several years, with the more desirable ladies
requiring more of your time. This process can be sped up by sending gifts to
your sweetie. Once married, you will begin to have children who will someday
take over this empire you are building.

Finally, having your business and family life in order, you will want to get
some control in the town by applying for offices. The prerequisite for an office
is your citizenship, which will come to you as your business and personal life
improve, provided you stay out of trouble (or at least do not get caught!).
The Guild is an immensely complicated game, to say the least. For those
players looking to really immerse themselves in a game, this is a gem. For
players looking to learn a game quickly, and play without patience, you need to
look elsewhere.
The game basics are truly just the beginning. You will also need to consider
security for your trade carts, building new buildings, talking with other town
residents, and even plotting evils against your competitors and enemies. The
standard game is an open-ended city builder, with can also be played
multi-player over a network. There are also game modes where you race your
competition to complete certain tasks over time.
The only downside to The Guild are the sometimes clunky game controls.
However, that can be overlooked since this is not an action game. The Guild is a
very ambitious game in its detail and scope, and it pretty much hits on all
cylinders.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
90%. This could very well be a prototype for the next generation of
city building games to come.
