For the first time, James Bond will be coming to the PC with James Bond 007:
NightFire. NightFire is a first person action game that will be a
combination of the familiar and the new. Bond himself will certainly be
familiar in the game, as EA has licensed the use of Pierce Brosnan's likeness
for the game's Bond character.
While the game's storyline itself is new, players familiar with the Bond
series of movies will recognize the inspiration for some of the game's levels.
True to its Bond heritage, NightFire will take you across the globe to a series
of exotic locations while challenging you with a variety of mission types.
You'll travel to an Austrian castle, a Tokyo high rise, a jungle base, a hidden
South Pacific training base, and more - you'll even find yourself maneuvering
through a low-g environment on a space station ala Moonraker. You'll need
to master the subtlety of stealth and high-tech gadgetry as well as the brute
force of modern heavy weapons as you strive to defeat the evil criminal
mastermind Rafael Drake, who has decided that he'd like to take over the world.
NightFire will provide you with a lot of flexibility in completing the
missions. While some of the missions can be completed by resorting to full
armed assault, you'll still need to rely on your spy skills of stealth,
deception, and use of high-tech gadgets. The game will also reward brains
over brawn, and you'll only be able to maximize your scores by using a more
subtle approach to the missions.
Once you complete the single-player campaign, you'll be able to go online and
play against up to 31 other players in multiplayer battles set in the world of
Bond. Bond fans will be in for a treat as many of the game's 15 levels are
drawn from the films, such as a Fort Knox level inspired by the film Goldfinger.
In addition, many of the playable characters in the multiplayer game are classic
Bond foes - you'll be able to fight as Odd Job and Jaws, among others. Of
course you'll also have access to a wide range of gadgets and traps with which
to frag your enemies. One of these gadgets is a brief case that when
deployed folds out into a remote machine gun. You can set it as a trap for
your enemies and watch their surprise as they run into its blistering gunfire.
Those of you with a console game system might know that NightFire is also
coming out for several systems. The PC version will not simply be a port
of the console version. Unique gadgets, levels, locations, and a much
larger multiplayer component will help the PC version to stand out from its
console brethren. James Bond 007: NightFire is due out in November of
2002.
