The game features 20 levels with a variety of mission types. Some are
timed courses where the player must make it to the end before the timer runs
out, with bonus time awarded for destroying certain targets. Others
require the player to destroy key targets to complete the mission (if you scroll
pass the target on the first pass, the game will keep scrolling the map around
so that the player will get as many passes as needed to take it out).
Interspersed between the regular missions are 'Intercept Missions' which are
essentially 'boss battles' against some super foe. These foes can take a
lot damage and dish out their share of punishment. Completing a mission
unlocks the next one in the sequence, but it won't take too long for players to
complete all of the missions in the game. After that, there is not much
replay value in the game, as the missions are similar enough to each other that
there is little motivation to go back and play them all over again. Also,
the action is mindless enough that the fun factor can wear thin after extended
play. Playing the game again using a different copter doesn't help much
either, as the two helicopters in the game are pretty similar - one has stronger
guns and weaker shields, and the other the opposite. There is a
multiplayer option in the game, but it is strictly for two players sitting at
one computer.
Probably the game's biggest problem is that there is just too much going on
at once. There are also so many power-ups available, that there is little
motivation for avoiding enemy fire - which is a good thing in this case since
the enemy fire can be extremely thick at times and just plain impossible to
maneuver around. Keeping the fire button
pressed almost constantly while dodging the larger salvos aimed at the copter
will get the player through most levels without much thought. There are
also constant voiceovers from the copter's pilot, but there is so much
constantly going on at once that it is impossible to tell exactly what triggered
the comment in the first place. The end result is a constant stream of
chatter which quickly grows repetitive and annoying.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
56%. All the action can provide a
short-lived diversion, but the game's repetitive nature and lack of consistent
challenge keep it from having any staying power.
