Insane puzzles are unfortunately not the only downfall of this title. The
website says that there are 15 minutes of film clips from some of The Master’s
movies. Well, that sounds like a good idea. Wrong. The majority of these clips
seem to be in the game for no other reason than that they had them. I was often
left scratching my head after one of these scenes trying to figure out why they
bothered putting that in. These clips add nothing to the game and just end up
being irritating after a while. I must confess that I’m not a huge fan of mixing
live action scenes within a game. This is a very good example for why I’m
against it.
Graphically, Final Cut is nothing special. The backgrounds are prerendered,
and though they aren’t anything to write home about, they’re also not going to
entice you to keep playing so that you can see what the next area has to offer.
There are numerous glitches where characters will walk through walls and such,
but my biggest complaint about this game is the sound. There are a lot of times
when you’re talking to a character, listening to a tape or watching a video
where the sound and speech skips. This is not only just a distraction, but you
miss vital information because of the garbled sentences. My solution was to just
keep replaying the same scene several times and hoping that different sections
would drop out each time and together I could piece together the general idea.
Not a good way to play a game. And for being a “suspense” game, there are times
when the music sounds like you’re on a carousal. Not good at all.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
30%. I remember my mom once telling me, “If you don’t have anything
nice to say don’t say anything at all.” Well, if I listened to her advice on
this review there wouldn’t really be anything to write. However, I feel that
everything has some value and that goodness can be found almost anywhere. With
that in mind I will say this: Like some of Hitchcock’s best movies, “The Final
Cut” will probably give you nightmares. (Hmmm, that might not have been nice
either. Forgive me mom.)
