The Elder Scrolls series which started with Arena and Daggerfall will
continue in 2002 with Morrowind. Morrowind promises to give role-playing
fans an unprecedented degree of freedom in determining the personality and
direction of their characters. Follow the path of righteousness as a noble
hero or simple healer, or venture down the dark path as an evil sorcerer or a
feared assassin. Your actions in the world of Morrowind will define your
character and the gameplay will evolve as your character does. No matter
which path you choose, Morrowind will feature a balanced gameplay system so that
all classes enjoy equal benefits. Players can select any class they wish
to play without worrying about handicapping themselves in the game.
While the game does have a main storyline, players do not have to follow it
in order to explore new areas in Morrowind. Morrowind is full of cities
and villages, each with their own unique look and feel, as well as a whole host
of exotic locations such as caves, ruins, and dungeons. Players can
undertake any of the hundreds of quests available, explore the world of
Morrowind, or revisit the main storyline at any point.
Behind Morrowind is an advanced 3D graphics engine that will feature
real-time shadows, skeletal based animation, and a complete weather
system. Initial screenshots from the game look fantastic and are an early
indication of what players can expect from Morrowind.
As if the gamewolrd provided by Morrowind was not enough, the game will ship
with The Elder Scrolls Construction Set. This is the same tool used by the
designers to create the world of Morrowind and can be used by players to modify
any of the game's data. You'll also be able to create new quests,
characters, and more, and even share them with other players. The
construction set uses a "plug-in" architecture that allows players to
create new quests, characters, weapons, and more and insert them directly into the
Morrowind gameworld.
Morrowind looks to be one of those games that will push the world of computer
RPGs to a new level. We'll keep you up to date on new information on
Morrowind as it becomes available.
