Comanche 4 comes with six campaigns of five missions each.  The campaigns take the player to various potential hot spots around the world, including Russia, the Philippines, and the always popular Middle East.  Enemy positions are fixed and the in-mission events are scripted, so once a mission is completed the player will know what to expect should he/she decide to give it another try.  Comanche 4 tries to enhance the missions' replayability by providing a scoring breakdown upon completion.  Players can retry the missions in an attempt to destroy all available targets and increase their score on future go rounds.  However, while there are a handful of interesting missions with varying objectives, there is a bit of a feeling of repetitive gameplay in the campaign.  This combined with the difficulty of the missions may discourage some players from completing the campaigns to the end.

Once a player has played through the campaigns, gameplay can be extended by using the included mission editor or by playing multiplayer games.  Multiplayer support for up to 16 players per game is integrated into the game, and joining internet games is a breeze.  NovaLogic's NovaWorld servers provide free player matching without even requiring players to go through a registration process.  Multiplayer games can be played in deathmatch, team deathmatch, and co-op modes.  In co-op, players team up to complete the missions from the game's single player campaigns.  Since a good deal of these missions present "target rich" environments, the co-op mode provides a quite exciting multiplayer game.

The graphics in Comanche 4 really shine.  Explosions are colorful and often spectacular, especially when a series of targets are taken out in succession.  The game supports a variety of camera views, including 1st and 3rd person views, a free look view, and a fly-by camera.  For a real treat, switch to 3rd person view and hover low over a body of water.  The turbulence caused by the chopper's rotors will cause the water's surface to realistically ripple and splash.  The game's environments feature rolling terrain, with mountains and even canyons, and are populated with structures, roads, and flora.  To enjoy Comanche 4 in all of its graphical glory, though, you'll need a computer with a fair amount of horsepower.

In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated: 82%. If you don't go in expecting a detailed helicopter sim, you'll probably be pleased with Comanche 4.  Great graphics and non-stop pulse-pounding action make for some fun gameplay, and an aerial shooter is a nice change of pace from other games.  The gameplay itself is a bit limited and at times pretty difficult, though, so some players may not have the patience to play through the entire campaign.
