These are just a few of the new weapons available to the Allies and Soviets,
but the lion's share of new units goes to Yuri. While inheriting a few of
the Soviet's weapons (he did once work for them, after all), Yuri has access to
gattling technology. Gattling Tanks and Gattling Cannons have a deadly
rate of fire which increases as they continue to fire. What's more, these
weapons are effective against both ground and air units. Yuri's weapons
are diverse and certainly imaginative. They include magnetic tanks which
pull vehicles close enough to be taken over by mind control units, mind control
tanks which can control multiple units at once, and flying saucers which can
drain the power from an enemy base.
Red Alert 2 fans will thoroughly enjoy the new campaigns. Although a
bit shorter than the ones included in the original game, they will provide
veterans with new challenges and breathe a whole new life into the game.
All new cutscenes, quality level design, and imaginative new locales make for a
new round of enjoyable gameplay.
The new units and structures are even more imaginative than those in the
original game, yet the gameplay still remains as balanced as ever. The
balance and variety of units will provide
new challenges for veteran players as they will need to adjust their old strategies
and develop new ones. It also adds a degree of replayability to the
campaign missions, as they can be played again using different strategic
approaches..
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated: 90%.
Imaginative new units and missions and an entire new faction, make this a
no-brainer purchase for Red Alert 2 fans. Kudos to Westwood for taking a great
game and making it even more fun. It would have been nice to play through
a campaign as the head of Yuri's forces, though.
