I do have one major complaint about the game, though. There is no way to save
your game in the middle of a mission. If you die, you have to start over from
scratch. This is not that big a deal on the smaller initial missions, but later
in the game this often leads to a frustrating loss of several hours of gameplay.
Some gaming purists believe that the lack of game saves is more realistic or
more challenging. I, however, feel that games should provide the player the
option to save mid-mission, and leave it as a personal choice as to whether or
not to use this feature. This oversight will be of particular frustration to
those that play primarily strategy games and might have some trouble making it
through the game's longer action-oriented missions.
Also an annoyance is the game's stability - between the aforementioned
graphical anomalies and occasional lock-ups on load screens, Giants can at times
be frustrating. The game is so beautiful and so much fun to play, though, that
many players will put up with these annoyances as a labor of love.
One last negative point is the inability to play as the Sea Reapers or Kabuto
until the prior race's missions are complete. Playing as Kabuto is an absolute
blast - you smash, grab, and eat your way through the missions - but some
players may find it very challenging to reach the point where they will have an
opportunity to do so.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated: 78%.
If it wasn't so buggy, allowed for mid-mission saves, and had better multiplayer
support, it would rate much higher. As it stands, though, it will be a labor of
love for some, a frustrating burden for others.
