After installing Lord of Destruction, you will have the opportunity to
upgrade you current characters to the expansion game. Be sure that you are ready
for the change, though, because it is irreversible. Should you create a new
expansion character, you'll need to take him or her through the first four acts
before being able to play the new fifth act.
The two new classes are imaginative and different than any of those available
in the original game. It is often the temptation in expansion games to offer new
characters that are merely a combination of a few of the originals -
warrior-mages and the like. Kudos to Blizzard for developing new classes that
offer a different play experience from the originals.
Another common problem with expansion games is that the new levels are often
a lot shorter than those in the original. The opposite is true of Lord of
Destruction, the fifth act is definitely longer and harder than any of the
original four.
The changes made to the hirelings give them an increased importance in the
game. In Diablo II, hirelings did not prove too useful as they had a propensity
for getting themselves quickly killed. Now that they can be equipped and grow in
skill, they become more of a regular party member than a temporary distraction
for monsters. You'll want to take a hireling and groom him or her into an
effective weapon to help you throughout the game.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated: 96%.
Lord of Destruction is a high quality expansion that enhances the already
excellent original game. If you enjoy Diablo II, then you'll want to buy this
expansion.
