WWE All Stars Review
Extra Features: Online Multiplayer (2-4 players), Leaderboards, Add-On Content
If you've ever been a fan of wrestling then surely you'll have your own favorite wrestler along with the larger than life persona that they had or still have in their career. WWE All Stars brings a player back to the glory days of wrestling and matches up older wrestlers against the wrestlers of today. WWE All Stars has a very unique feel to it compared to other wrestling games that I have played - it is very easy to pick up and play and the gameplay is identical to the actual action that you'll find on a WWE program.
Each wrestler has a variety of exclusive melee attacks and grabs along with super moves and a finisher. Just like in the sport of wrestling, the action is flashy and the wrestlers are all portrayed as larger than life as we come to expect. The intros are full of flashiness. As each wrestler enters the ring, their music theme will start up and real clips of the wrestler will be displayed on the screen in the back of them.
The game has an expansive roster of well-known past and present wrestlers. The game includes legends of old and superstars of the modern time. From the start, a player can take control of legends such as Steve Austin, Ricky Steamboat, Roddy Piper, Randy Savage, Jake Roberts, Bret Hart, Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and the Rock or a player can choose a current superstar such as Triple H, John Cena, Big Show, CM Punk, Sheamus, Rey Mysterio, John Morrison, Kofi Kingston, Randy Orton and the Undertaker. The game offers 10 unlockable wrestlers after certain tasks are performed also.
Reversals play a big role in WWE All Stars and learning the timing for each one can have a big impact on a battle. Melee attacks and grabs can all be reversed. The trouble that I found with the reversal timing in the game is that there is no way to practice! There is no training mode or any way to train other than to engage in a CPU or online match and practice as each move is performed. A player can learn the timing for each reversal and gain the upper hand in a fight a good bit of the time. If you don't learn the timing, then tapping the reversal button as the icon appears will sometimes work and sometimes not.
All Stars has three main modes of play. It has an Exhibition mode, a Path of Champions mode and a Fantasy Warfare mode. Exhibition can be played either online or offline. A player can choose from a Standard match, a Tornado Tag Team match, Steel Cage match, Extreme Rules match or Elimination match. The standard match is a standard 1 vs. 1 match where a player must pin or knock out an opponent. The Tornado Tag Team is a 2 vs. 2 match where two teams must face off and pin or knock out one opponent on the opposing team.
