In Short
Deceptively complex, but at the same time not fun enough to coax you into getting hooked.

Fans of card games or board games may be curious to try this game out. There isnt a lot to the game. You have a HQ, characters, power-ups, and actions. You lay them all on the board and they do battle. Whoevers HQ takes the most damage is declared the loser.

You use hexes (eight-sided tiles) on a small board. You only get 2 new tiles each turn, and to initiate combat, someone needs to draw a combat tile and use it. The game mechanics are bit more complex however. Direction, melee vs range, actions, and the order of combat are all separate parts that determine who gets to attack what. I know that in one game we went into combat and my guys didnt do anything, we just took four hits in a row. Anyone thinking they could jump in and play will be mistaken, as this game is about knowing the rules and tactics.

The app itself doesnt look stellar, but at least the game runs smoothly. You do get a tutorial walkthrough, and the game does provide a nice info tool to actually read what each hex does. There is even a guide that briefly explains the back-story and further explains the gameplay.

The look of the game may not be appealing to some, and learning the complex rules of a small, cramped game may not sound like a ton of fun. But if youve ever wondered what it would be like to play a table-top, card, and board game at the same time, this may finally be your chance.

Final Rating: 69%
