The boys have some competition in the new DVD release of Alvin and the
Chipmunks, The Chipettes. The female chipmunks, Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor
give Alvin, Simon and Theodore all they can handle in six episodes featuring the
girls from the Chipmunks television cartoon series. The episodes are "May the
Best Chipmunk Win", "Operation Theodore", "Sisters", "The Greatest Show-offs on
Earth", "My Fair Chipette", and "Tell it to the Judge".
This DVD is an interesting throw back to the cartoons I watched as I neared
the end of childhood, and is a real contrast to today's offerings. It was
refreshing in a way to just have a cartoon that entertains, and not necessarily
teaching language, math or environmental messages. I was pleasantly surprised
that my daughter took to the cartoons right away and did not view them as old or
outdated; a good reminder that good cartoons can be timeless. This DVD will
likely skew younger and female, but not a bad bet for any child.
