Just as Season 3 was the season of The Others, Lost: Season 4 is the season of The Freighter.  And just as Season 3 spent far too much time stretching the Oceanic survivors' encounter with The Others out over the course of the season, so it goes with Season 4.  You just can't help but get the idea that the series' story is being stretched to the limit to squeeze an extra season or two out of the series.  In spite of this, Lost is still Lost and there's a lot to love about the series.  Just when you start to get a little irritated in the way the show milks The Freighter or the "Flash-forwards" to the future after "The Oceanic Six" escape the island, the show reveals a new secret, introduces a new plot twist, or throws in such a brilliant episode that you're hooked all over again.  This is the shortest season, consisting of only 14 episodes, but then on the other hand it meant that The Freighter storyline couldn't be stretched out as long as that for The Others.

It takes watching the series in hi-def on Blu-ray to truly appreciate the Hawaiian scenery that serves as a backdrop for the series, but there are other bonuses in store for Lost fans that buy Season 4 on Blu-ray.  SeasonPlay is a feature that keeps track of where you left off the last time you were watching - it will even let you know which disc should be in the player.  You also get to enjoy the extensive list of bonus features in HD.  The features that you'd think would reveal more about the series' mysteries aren't that satisfactory in that regard - they primarily consist of the kind of deleted scenes that are deleted for a reason.  The features that show the show behind the scenes are more interesting.  Watching the show's crew transform places in Oahu to appear as locations around the world is fascinating, and the cast and crew interviews are a treat for fans of the series.  The season may have been abbreviated, but the special features have not.  There's no reason for Lost fans to skip on this season, and you'll be glad that went with the hi-def version after watching just the first episode.
