Glen Close is back as her evil self playing one of Disney's most enigmatic
villains, Cruela De Vil. This time she faces off with a rag tag team of dogs
lead by the spotless Dalmatian Oddball and the
Rottweiler-stuck-in-a-macaw's-body Waddlesworth. Cruela's long rehab and time in
prison has been for naught as she is quickly overcome by her urge to build the
perfect coat out of Dalmatian puppy fur. This time the battle spills out of
London all the way to Paris, with a climactic scene at a Parisian bakery
(picture flour, cakes, and mayhem).
Close is one of only two cast members back from the original live-action film
101 Dalmatians, so some of the charm and continuity is lost. But at the end of
the day this film's mettle is in the antics of the Dalmatians, other animals and
Cruela, and this film has no shortage of that. This is sure to be a family movie
night hit in any house where the kids are more than a couple of years old.
