The Gamers' Temple 2002 Games of the Year - Action

No One Lives Forever 2

This was a big year for action games, making this the toughest category to judge.  However, No One Lives Forever 2 (NOLF2) provides something missing in most action games these days - a sense of humor.  NOLF2 certainly delivers some good first person shooter action with elements of stealth thrown in for good measure, but how many other games give you the chance to fight evil killer mimes?  No game pokes fun at the 60s spy genre or itself as effectively as NOLF2.  In fact, it puts the supposed king of spy spoofs, Austin Powers, to shame.  The great gameplay is matched with imaginative level design that takes you to the streets of New Delhi, the hinterlands of Russia in deep winter, and even into a trailer park during a tornado.  Step into the shoes of sexy super-agent Cate Archer and be prepared to have your funny bone tickled with your itchy trigger finger.

Honorable Mention
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault

A great storyline matched with great graphics. This game includes a level set during the storming of the beach at Normandy that ranks as one of the most intense missions ever to appear in a first person shooter.
