GT: How's it feel to have your music included in a Madden NFL game?
DRE: Monumental. Of top. It's a dream come true. Growing up playing Madden
over all these years, every kid who is interested in music, whether you are
rapper or a rocker, and you played Madden, it's a dream to have your song placed
in Madden. It's Madden!
GT: What were your first thoughts when you heard that you're music was selected
to be a part of the Madden NFL experience?
DRE: Excitement. Then fulfillment, as one of my records was slated to be in
last year's soundtrack but due to politics that didn't happen. Whatever. Cause
now I'm on the 20th anniversary Madden 09.
GT: Football is a violent sport, but there's also a certain poetry to it.
There's some correlation to that with hip-hop music. Do you feel that this makes
hip-hop a natural soundtrack for pro football?
DRE: In some cases, yeah. In my case, this time around, my song isn't a
violent record, but a very passionate, strong, solid record. So I feel like
different records can create different moods within a violent sport. But I would
definitely say that hip-hop is a perfect match for football.
GT: "Keeping it real" is important to you and your music; do you feel that
you are helping Madden NFL to keep it real this year?
DRE: 100%. I definitely am, no question.
GT: Do you think that a game's soundtrack is an important part of the gameplay
experience?
DRE: Most definitely, I know it's important. As you're playing, different
moods can come up from different records. Example, if you're losing and you hear
records you love, it makes you turn it up even more to get back in the game and
win. So, music in games is definitely important.
GT: Is there a type of game that you think would be a good match for your music
or that you would love to see your music in?
DRE: Damn, and I'm already in Madden? FIFA. The whole football thing, you
know?
GT: Are you a gamer yourself? What types of games do you enjoy?
DRE: Of course I'm a gamer and EA Sports games is what I enjoy the most. I
mean, Madden, NBA LIVE, Fight Night, those three get the most play on my elite
360. Then comes the military war games.
GT: You're in Madden NFL 09. You've made it. What's next for Young Dre?
DRE: A new street album, then a digital release, NBA LIVE, and Cheahbah TV
websites and anything else that I am involved with. Y'all just kick back and
watch. OK GET IT!
GT: Is there anything else about the whole Madden experience that you'd like to
share with our readers?
DRE: Just being a part of such a successful franchise for the last 20 years
is a monumental experience.
