TCG and video game players will meet face-to-face on Saturday and Sunday, July 28 and 29 at the San Diego Convention Center to battle for the coveted titles of "Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Champion" and "Yu-Gi-Oh! Video Game World Champion."
The Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship Tournaments for the TCG and video game products will be held as a part of the 38th Annual Comic-Con International show in San Diego. In addition to the World Championship Tournament, side tournaments and activities for both the TCG and video game products will also be available throughout the weekend, giving fans the ultimate Yu-Gi-Oh! experience.
Regional tournaments for the TCG have been held around the world throughout the year. Online video game tournaments were held in late April to find the best Yu-Gi-Oh! players. Top Duelists from Regional and online tournaments were then awarded invitations to the TCG and video game National Championship events held in their own country. Winners from these National Championship tournaments have been awarded a seat to represent their own country at the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship event at Comic-Con.
The U.S. Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG National Championship Tournament was held June 23 and 24 in Columbus, Ohio. The intense competition not only attracted the largest attendance for a Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG National Championship event, but was also a true nationwide event, attracting players from all around the U.S. who came to Columbus from as far as Hawaii, Texas, Alaska, California, New York and Florida.
After 14 rounds of fierce competition, 16-year-old Adam Corn from Los Angeles was named the "Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG U.S. National Champion." The Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG is a game of strategy, where players create individual decks of cards collected from Structure Decks and Booster Packs. Two players engage in a duel while using cards that represent powerful Monsters, magical Spells and surprising Traps. Duelists with well-constructed decks, dominating monsters, solid strategy and good fortune are the victors in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME. The Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG is manufactured by Konami, and is distributed worldwide (with the exception of Asia) by the Upper Deck Company.
The official video game used in the upcoming tournaments will be Konami's Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship Tournament 2007 for the Nintendo DS. The game offers an incredibly faithful adaptation of the hit trading card game, with more than 1600 cards to use, new modes and full online play with community support via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, including full voice chat capabilities. Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2007 carries a suggested retail price of $29.99 and is available at retailers nationwide or at www.konami.com.
